“Glory To The Lamb Jesus”/Isaiah 58, “True Fasting”

Christian Living

“Brighter Day,” Kirk Franklin

“True Fasting,’ Isaiah 58:1) Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew MY People their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.  2) Yet they seek ME daily, delight to know MY WAYS, as a nation that did Righteousness, and forsook not the Ordinance of their GOD:  they ask of ME the Ordinances of Justice; they take delight in Approaching to GOD.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v1, Isaiah was to alert the people as loudly and clearly as a trumpet. Transgression is related to the verb “rebelled” in 1:2.  v2, Ordinance is translated “Justice” in 56:1.  The hypocritical religionists delight in approaching GOD in ritual Worship (29:13).

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v1-2, THE HOLY SPIRIT Had Hypocrites Of Every Age In View.  Self-love and timidity may say, “Spare thyself;” dislike to THE CROSS and other motives will say “Spare the rich and powerful,”  But GOD Says, “Spare Not;” And We Must OBEY GOD, not men.  We All Need Earnestly To Pray For GOD’S ASSISTANCE In Examining Ourselves.  Men may go far toward Heaven, Yet Come Short; And They May Go To Hell With A Good Reputation.
