Anti-type – Foreshadowed by a Type.

Types of Christ – Those Superseding Christ.  Historic.  Example:  The Passover Lamb is a Type Of Christ (Exodus 12).  ” The Goat of Atonement”  (Leviticus 16:29-34), a Type of Christ.  The Hebrews tells us that the “Types” are but the “SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, AND NOT THE VERY IMAGE OF THE THING.” Heb. 10:1.

Christ The Anti-type –  Christ Supersedes The Types Of Christ.  He Is Prophetic, The Fulfillment and The Real Thing.  Ephesians 1:7; Romans 5:9; Hebrews 13:12….

Psalm 18 is attributed to David.  The text of this Psalm is found in 2 Samuel 22 with some variations.  The superscription (writing) indicates that this Psalm was David’s Hymn of Celebration To The Grace Of God.  This may be a Psalm of Trust.  *NCBC.

Psalm 18, Of David the servant of The Lord.  He sang to The Lord the words of this Song When The Lord Delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.  He said:

“I Will Love Thee, O Lord, My Strength,” IV, Psalm 18:29) For By Thee I Have Run Through A Troop; And By My God Have I Leaped Over A Wall.  30) As For God, His Way Is Perfect; The Word Of The Lord Is Tried:  He Is A Buckler To All Those That Trust In Him.  31) For Who Is God Save The Lord?  Or Who Is A Rock Save Our God?  Deuteronomy 32:31; 2 Samuel 22;32.  32) It Is God That Girdeth Me With Strength, And Maketh My Way Perfect.  33) He Maketh My Feet Like Hinds’ Feet, And Setteth Me Upon My High Places.  34) He Teacheth My Hands To War, So That A Bow Of Steel Is Broken By Mine Arms.  35) Thou Hast Also Given Me The Shield Of Thy Salvation:  And Thy Right Hand Hath Holden Me Up, And Thy Gentleness Hath Made Me Great.  36) Thou Hast Enlarged My Steps Under Me, That My Feet Did Not Slip.  37) I Have Pursued Mine Enemies, And Overtaken Them:  Neither Did I Turn Again Till They Were Consumed.  38) I have wounded them that they were not able to rise:  they are fallen under my feet.  39) For Thou Hast Girded Me With Strength Unto The Battle:  Thou Hast Subdued Under Me Those That Rose Up Against Me.

*Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v25-30, With the merciful:  The psalmist describes The Actions Of God In Terms Of The People To Whom He Relates.  God Deals With Each Person According To His Or Her Attitude.  He Opposes The Proud, But Delivers The Humble, for the humble Turn To Him For Strength.  v31, Who Is God:  With a question, David confesses that he cannot compare God to any person, god, or object (113:5; Isaiah 40:25).  v32-36, The use of battle armor, such as a shield, As An Image Of God’s Provision For The Righteous is found in both The Old and New Testaments (Ephesians 6:10-20).  v37-41, pursued by enemies:  God Gives David Strength To Complete The Battle Against his Enemies.  God Himself Is A Warrior (Exodus 15:3) And He Outfits His Servants For Battle.  To The Lord:  Apparently in the extremes of battle, the enemies of David found no help from their gods, so they screamed aloud to David’s God for deliverance.  But God Would Not Answer Them.  There Is Only One Prayer From The Wicked To Which He Gladly Listens—The Prayer Of Repentance.

Quest Study Bible – v31, “How Is God A Rock?”  The Picture Is Of A Huge Rock, So Hard And Strong That No One Can Damage It.  It Has Been In Its Spot Since The Beginning Of The Earth And Will Always Remain There.  This Is The Kind Of God We Have;  Strong, Enduring, Trustworthy.  He Will Always Be There When We Need Him.  Amen.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v29-50, When We Praise For One Mercy, We Must Observe The Many More, Which We Have Been Compassed (Covered) All Our Days.  Many Things Had Contributed To David’s Advancement, And He Own’s (To) The Hand Of God In Them All, To Teach Us To Do Likewise.  In Verse 32, And In The Following Verses, Are The Gifts Of God To The Spiritual Warrior, Whereby He (The Believer) Is Prepared For The Contest, After The Example Of His Victorious Leader (Christ).  Learn That We Must Seek Release Through Christ.  In David The Type (Of Christ), We Behold The Reconciliation Of Jesus Our Redeemer, Conflicting With Enemies, Compassed With Sorrows, And With Ungodly Men, Enduring Not Only The Pains Of Death, But The Wrath Of God For Us; Yet Calling Upon The Father With Strong Cries And Tears; Rescued From The Grave; Proceeding To Reconcile, Or To Put Under His Feet All Other Enemies, Till Death, The Last Enemy, Shall Be Destroyed.  We Should Love The Lord Our Strength, And Our Salvation; We Should Call On Him In Every Trouble, And Praise Him For Every Deliverance; We Should Aim To Walk With Him In All Righteousness And True Holiness, Keeping From Sin.  If We Belong To Him, He Conquers And Reigns For Us, And We Shall Conquer And Reign Through Him, And Partake Of The Mercy Of Our Anointed King, Which Is Promised To All His Seed Forevermore!  Amen.
