“Nobody Like You Lord,”  Maranda Willis Leads Powerful Worship In Phoenix

“Israel’s Only Savior,” Isaiah 43:1) But Now Thus Saith The Lord That Created thee, O Jacob, And He That Formed thee, O Israel, Fear Not:  For I Have Redeemed thee, I Have Called thee by thy name;  thou Art Mine.  1 Corinthians 1:9.  2) When thou passest through the waters, I Will Be With thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:  when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.  3) For I Am The Lord thy God, The Holy One Of Israel, thy Saviour:   I Gave Egypt For thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.  Proverbs 21:18.  4) Since thou Wast Precious In My Sight, thou hast been honourable, And I Have Loved thee:  Therefore Will I Give Men For thee, And People For thy Life.  5) Fear Not:  For I Am With thee:  I Will Bring thy seed from the east, and Gather thee from the west;  Isaiah 41:10, 14.  6) I Will Say To The North, Give Up; And To The South, Keep Not Back:  Bring My Sons From Far, And My Daughters From The Ends Of The Earth;  7) Even Every One That Is Called By My Name:  For I Have Created him for My Glory, I Have Formed Him; Yea, I Have Made him.  John 3:3; Ephesians 2:10.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v1, The Hebrew verb Created means “to fashion anew” — A Divine Activity.  The second verb Formed means “To Shape,” to fashion as a potter, and is used in Genesis 2:7 Of God Fashioning The Body Of The Man From The Dust Of The Earth.  v2, Walk through the fire is a metaphor for Protection In Danger (Psalm 66:12).  v3, Lord your God:  The God Of All Creation Declares Himself To Be The God Of The Israelites.  v4, Israel is considered precious because of God’s Sovereign Grace (Deuteronomy 7:6-8).   v5, 6, Fear Not:  God’s People Are To Fear Him.  Being Sure Of His Presence, They Need Not Be Afraid Of Anything or Anyone.   v7, 8, As a blind and deaf witness, the nation of Israel did not fulfill the Prophecy of Restoration (42:18-20).

Quest Study Bible – v2, “What good is punishment that doesn’t hurt?”   If God Brought These Disasters Upon His People As Punishment (42:24-25), does it make sense for Him To Protect From Those Same Disasters?  Yes!  The Whole Point Is That They Must Learn To Rely On Him.  He Will Protect His People If They Let Him.  If they don’t, disaster awaits.   v3, “Why make Egypt, Cush and Seba pay for Israel’s sins?”   This Text implies That God Allowed Persia To Conquer These Surrounding Nations In Exchange (Ransom) For Persia’s Allowing The Jews To Return Home.  Was this fair?  As several of the Prophets pointed out, every nation had its own sins to pay for (see Zephaniah 2, for instance).  v5-6, “From the east …  from the west … the north … the south,”    Isaiah looks forward to a future gathering, When The Root Of Jesse (The Messiah) Draws Together The Scattered Remnant Of Israel (11:11).  Some say this happened When Jesus Came; others point to Pentecost (Acts 2:8-11).  It Will Certainly Happen In The Coming Kingdom.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v1-7, God’s Favor And Good-Will To His People Speak Abundant Comfort To All Believers.  The New Creature, Is Of God’s Forming.  All Who Are Redeemed With The Blood Of His Son, He Has Set Apart For Himself.  Those That Have God For Them Need Not Fear Who Or What Can Be Against Them.  What Are Egypt And Ethiopia, All Their Lives And Treasures, Compared With The Blood Of Christ?  True Believers Are Precious In God’s Sight, His Delight Is In Them, Above Any People.  Though They Went Through Fire And Water, Yet, While They Had God With Them, They Need Fear No Evil; They Should Be Born (Brought) Up, And Brought Out.  The Faithful Are Encouraged.  They Were To Be Assembled From Every Quarter.  And With This Pleasing Object In View, The Prophet Then Dissuades From Fear.
