“Fill Me Up,” Trey McLaughlin and SOZ

“PRAISE YE THE LORD,” Psalm 149:1) PRAISE YE THE LORD, Sing Unto The Lord A New Song, And His Praise In The Congregation Of Saints.  Isaiah 42:10.  2) Let Israel Rejoice In HIM That Made him:  Let The Children Of Zion Be Joyful In Their King.  3) Let Them Praise HIS NAME In The Dance:  Let Them Sing Praises Unto HIM With The Timbrel And Harp.  4) For The Lord Taketh Pleasure In His People:  He Will Beautify The Meek With Salvation.  5) Let The Saints Be Joyful In Glory:  Let Them Sing Aloud Upon Their Beds.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – PSALM 149 – An Exuberant Call To Praise God, Was Used By The Army Of Israel As Well As By The People In Their Worship Of God.

Quest Study Bible – v1, “Assembly of the Saints,”  Since this Psalm was probably written after the Babylonian Captivity, assembly would refer to the Faithful Remnant who returned from Babylon.  The Saints were those who Honored God By Living According To His Will.  v3, “How does dancing Honor God?”  Dancing and making music was just one legitimate Biblical expression of Worship (see Exodus 15:19-20; 2 Samuel 6:14-15, for example).  Voices, hands, body position and movement all can express feelings of Joy, Thankfulness and Praise To God.  v5, “Why sing in bed?”  This may be a figurative way of describing  an ability to Sleep Peacefully at night without Fear and with a Clear Conscience (4:8; 127:2).  Some think this may be a picture of   reclining (as was the custom) to eat a festal meal—especially if the theme of the festival was God’s Ultimate Victory.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v1-5, New Mercies Continually Demand New Songs Of Praise, Upon Earth And In Heaven.  And the children of Zion have not only to Bless The God Who Made Them, But To Rejoice In Him, As Having Created Them In Christ Jesus Unto Good Works, And Formed Them Saints As Well As Men.  The Lord Takes Pleasure In His People; they should Rejoice In Him.  When The Lord Has Made Sinners Feel Their Wants And Unworthiness, He Will Adorn Them With The Grace Of His Spirit, And Cause Them To Bear His Image, And Rejoice In His Happiness For Ever.  Let His Saints Employ Their Waking Hours Upon their Beds In Songs OF Praise.  Let Them Rejoice, Even Upon the Bed Of Death, Assured That They Are Going To Eternal Rest And Glory.
