“Bless The Lord, O My Soul,” cont’d, Psalm 103:6) The Lord Executeth Righteousness and Judgment For All That Are Oppressed. 7) He Made Known His Ways Unto Moses, His Acts Unto The Children Of Israel. 8) The Lord Is Merciful And Gracious, Slow To Anger, And Plenteous In Mercy. 9) He Will Not Always Chide (Scold or Rebuke): Neither Will He Keep His Anger For Ever. Isaiah 57:16; Jeremiah 3:5; Micah 7:18. 10) He Hath Not Dealt with us After Our Sins; Nor Rewarded Us According To Our Iniquities. 11) For As The Heaven Is High Above The Earth, So Great Is His Mercy Toward Them That Fear Him. 12) As far as the east is from the west, So Far Hath He Removed Our Transgressions From us. 13) Like As A Father Pitieth His Children, So The Lord Pitieth Them That Fear Him. Malachi 3:17. 14) For He Knoweth Our Frame; He Remembereth that we Are Dust.
Quest Study Bible – v10, “What do our sins deserve?” Sin Deserves Death (Romans 6:23) sometimes defined as Eternal Separation From God. Unconfessed and Unforgiven sin will bring Judgment and will prevent us from Standing Before A Holy God (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 21:8). v11, “Does God Want Us To Be Afraid Of Him?” Fear Of, Or Respect For, God Is A Good Thing. Without it, people are Presumptuous (Arrogant or Bold) Before God. Those who do not Fear God Will Fail To Respect His Awesome Power And Righteousness. and they will not recognize The Infinite Distance Between Their Sins And His Holiness. See Article: “Should We Live In Terror Of God?” (Proverbs 1: 7). v12, “As far as the east is from the west,” A metaphor used to picture an infinite distance. When The Lord Removes Sin, It No Longer Exists Anywhere. v14, “Why call human beings dust?” God Formed Humanity From The Dust Of The Earth (Genesis 2:7), showing the insignificance and brevity (shortness) of physical life. Yet He Values Humans So Much That He Stamped HIS OWN IMAGE On Us (Genesis 1:27) AND SENT HIS SON TO DIE FOR US (John 3;16).
Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v6-14, Truly God Is Good To All: He Is In A Special Manner(,) Good To Israel. He Has Revealed Himself And His Grace To Them. By His Ways We May Understand His Precepts, The Ways He Requires Us To Walk In; And His Promises And Purposes. He Always Has Been Full Of Compassion. How Unlike God are those who take every occasion to chide (scold or rebuke), and never know when to cease! What would be come of us, if God Should Deal So With Us? The Scripture Says A Great Deal Of The Mercy Of God, And We All Have Experienced It. The father pities his children that are weak in knowledge, and teaches them; pities them when they are froward (difficult to deal with), and bears with them; pities them when they are fallen, and helps them to rise; pities them when they have offended, and upon their submission, forgives them; pities them when wronged, and rights them: Thus The Lord Pities Those That Fear Him. See Why He Pities. He Considers The Frailty Of Our Bodies, And The Folly Of Our Souls, how little we can do, how little we can bear; IN ALL WHICH HIS COMPASSION APPEARS.
