“The Women of Jerusalem,” Isaiah 32:9) Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.  Amos 6:1.  10) Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women; for the vintage (grape harvest) shall fail, the gathering (harvest) shall not come.   11) Tremble, ye women that are at ease, be troubled, ye careless ones:  strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins.  12) They shall lament for the teats (beat their breasts), for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.  13) Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city:  Hosea 9:6.  14) Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever; a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;  15) Until The Spirit Be Poured upon us From On High, and the wilderness, be a Fruitful Field, and the Fruitful Field be accounted for a forest.  Psalm 104:30.  16) Then Judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and Righteousness remain in the Fruitful Field.  17) And The Work Of Righteousness Shall Be Peace; And The Effect Of Righteousness Quietness And Assurance For Ever.  Luke 2:14.  18) And my people shall dwell in a Peaceable Habitation, and in Sure Dwellings, and in Quiet Resting Places;  19) When it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.  20) Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters, that send forth thither the feet of the ox and the ass (to roam free).  Isaiah 30:24.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v8, 9  The term complacent is used three times of these women  (vv. 9, 10, 12); it is derived from the verb meaning “to trust.”  Although the wicked erroneously relied on Egypt for their security (see 31:1), The Righteous Placed Their Trust In The Lord.  v10-12, Mourning women in the ancient Middle East removed their clothing and wore sackcloth around their waists ( Genesis 37:34).  v13, 14  palaces … pasture:   These images speak of the complete ruin of Jerusalem In The Day Of God’s Judgment.  v15,  The new age depends On The Creative Work Of The Spirit (11;2; 42:1; 61:1; Ezekiel 36:26;, 27; Joel 2:28, 29) Who Originates On High, In God’s Dwelling (33:5).  This is in contrast to going “down to Egypt” (31:1).  v16, fruitful field:  This is a reversal of the Judgment Predicted in 29:17.  v17, 18  The Hebrew words translated assurance and secure are related to the Hebrew word translated “complacent” in v. 9.  v19, 20 Hail may refer to Assyria (28:2)

Quest Study Bible – v9-10,  “Why did the women feel so complacent and secure?”   Because they were so caught up in their easy lives of luxury.  They ignored Deeper, Spiritual needs–both their own and their nation’s.  Isaiah called attention to their complacency as just one example of society’s twisted values during his day.  v10, “What was to happen in little more than a year?”   We can’t say with certainty.  Some think this was perhaps a Prophecy of an invasion by the Assyrian King Sennacherib in 701 B. C.  Whatever the coming trouble, it’s clear that the things that once gave pleasure and feelings of security would soon be gone.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v9-20, When there was so much provocation given to The Holy God, Bad Times Might Be Expected.  Alas! How Many Careless Ones There Are, Who Support Self-Indulgence!  We deserve to be deprived of the supports of life, when we make them the food of lusts.  Let such tremble and be troubled.  Blessed Times Shall Be Brought In By The Pouring Out Of The Spirit From On High; Then, And Not Till Then, There Will Be Good Times.  The present state of the Jews shall continue until a more abundant Pouring Out Of The Spirit From On High.  Peace And Quietness Shall Be Found In The Way And Work Of Righteousness.  True Satisfaction Is To Be Had Only In True Religion.  And Real Holiness Is Real Happiness Now, And (This Happiness) Shall Be Perfect Holiness For Ever.  The Good Seed Of The Word shall be sown in all places, and Be Watered By Divine Grace; and Patient Laborers Shall Be Sent Forth Into God’s Husbandry (Co-workers In God’s Service).  Amen.
