“A Song of Praise,” cont’d, Isaiah 26:5) For He Bringeth Down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, He Layeth It Low: He Layeth It Low, even to the ground; He Bringeth It Even To The Dust.  6) The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.  7) The Way of The Just Is Uprightness:  Thou, Most Upright, Dost Weigh The path of The Just.  8) Yea, In The Way Of Thy Judgments, O Lord, Have We Waited For Thee; The Desire Of Our Soul Is To Thy Name, And To The Remembrance Of Thee.  Malachi 4:4; Luke 1:6.  9) With my soul have I desired Thee in the night; yea, with my Spirit within me Will I Seek Thee Early:  For When Thy Judgments Are In The Earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn Righteousness.  Luke 6:12.  10) Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn Righteousness; in the land of Uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not Behold The Majesty Of The Lord.  Ecclesiastes 8:12; Romans 2:4.  11) Lord, When Thy Hand Is Lifted Up, they will not see;  but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, The Fire Of Thine Enemies Shall Devour Them.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v5, 6, Line after line asserts the destruction of the lofty city (v. 1) By The Power Of God.  v7, Uprightness; O Most Upright:  The Relative Uprightness of the Righteous is put into the text Of The Absolute Righteousness of The Holy One.  v8, waited:  For a similar idea, see 40:31 (compare Psalm 40:1).  v9, in the night … early:  The Prophet describes his relentless Search For God.  v10, The wicked show contempt for God’s Grace (Romans 2:4).  Majesty is translated “excellent things” in 12:5.  v11, Your Hand:  The Works Of The Lord Are Ignored By The Wicked (5:12).  The Fire Of may also be translated “The Fire Upon.”

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v5-11, This way of the Just is evenness, a steady course of Obedience and Holy Conversation.  And It Is Their Happiness That God makes Their Way Plain And Easy.  It is our duty, and will be our comfort, To Wait For God, To Keep Up Holy Desires Toward Him In The Darkest And Most Discouraging Times.  Our troubles must never Turn Us From God; and in the darkest, longest night of affliction, with our souls must we Desire Him; And This We Must Wait And Pray To Him For.  We make nothing of our Religion, whatever our profession may be if we do not make heart-work of it.  Though we come ever so early, We Shall Find God Ready To Receive Us.   The intentions of  afflictions is to teach Righteousness:  Blessed Is The Man Whom The Lord Thus Teaches.  But sinners walk contrary to Him.  They will go on in their evil ways, because they will not consider What A God He Is Whose Laws They Persist In Despising.  Scorners and the secure will shortly feel what now they will not Believe, That It Is A Fearful Thing To Fall Into The Hands Of The Living God.  They will not see the evil of sin, But They  Shall See.   Oh that they would abandon their sins, And Turn To The Lord, That He May have Mercy Upon Them.
