“Glory To The Lamb Jesus”/Isaiah 25, “PRAISE TO THE LORD,” III

CHRISTIAN LIVING

“Intercession,” William McDowell

“PRAISE TO THE LORD,” lll, ISAIAH 25:9) AND IT SHALL BE SAID IN THAT DAY, LO, THIS IS OUR GOD; WE HAVE WAITED FOR HIM, WE WILL BE GLAD AND REJOICE IN HIS SALVATION.  10) FOR IN THIS MOUNTAIN SHALL THE HAND OF THE LORD REST, AND MOAB SHALL BE TRODDEN DOWN UNDER HIM, EVEN AS STRAW IS TRODDEN DOWN FOR THE DUNGHILL.  11) AND HE SHALL SPREAD FORTH HIS HANDS IN THE MIDST OF THEM, AS HE THAT SWIMMETH SPREADETH FORTH HIS HANDS TO SWIM:  AND HE SHALL BRING DOWN THEIR PRIDE TOGETHER WITH THE SPOILS OF THEIR HANDS.  JOB 40:11, 12.  12) AND THE FORTRESS OF THE HIGH FORT OF THY WALLS SHALL HE BRING DOWN, LAY LOW, AND BRING TO THE GROUND, EVEN TO THE DUST.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v9, Note the change from “my God” (v.1) to our God.  This verse is the faithful’s song of Praise.  Be Glad And Rejoice may be rephrased as “be exceedingly happy.”  Salvation is deliverance from constraint (limits), whether it is falling into a pit (Psalm 40:2) or the constraint of sin and death.  v10, 11, Moab symbolizes the proud.  for the refuse heap:  This phrase refers to water mixed with dung—a very unpleasant image.  v12,  HE WILL BRING DOWN:  THIS WILL BE THE WORK OF THE LORD.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v9-12, WITH JOY AND PRAISE WILL THOSE ENTERTAIN THE GLAD TIDINGS OF THE REDEEMER, WHO LOOKED FOR HIM, AND WITH A TRIUMPHANT SONG WILL GLORIFIED SAINTS ENTER INTO THE JOY OF THEIR LORD!  AND IT IS NOT IN VAIN TO WAIT FOR HIM; FOR THE MERCY COMES AT LAST, WITH ABUNDANT RECOMPENSE FOR THE DELAY.  THE HANDS ONCE STRETCHED OUT UPON THE CROSS, TO MAKE WAY FOR OUR SALVATION, WILL AT LENGTH BE STRETCHED FORTH TO DESTROY ALL IMPERTINENT SINNERS.  MOAB IS HER PUT FOR ALL ADVERSARIES OF GOD’S PEOPLE; THEY SHALL ALL BE TRODDEN DOWN OR THRESHED .  GOD SHALL BRING DOWN THE PRIDE OF THE ENEMIES BY ONE JUDGMENT AFTER ANOTHER.  THIS DESTRUCTION OF MOAB IS TYPICAL OF CHRIST’S VICTORY , AND THE PULLING DOWN OF SATAN’S STRONG-HOLDS.  THEREFORE, BELOVED BRETHREN, BE YE STEDFAST, UNMOVABLE, ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD; FOR YOUR LABOUR IS NOT IN VAIN IN THE LORD.  AMEN.
