“PRAISE TO THE LORD,” CONT’D, ISAIAH 25:6) AND IN THIS MOUNTAIN SHALL THE LORD OF HOSTS MAKE UNTO ALL PEOPLE A FEAST OF FAT THINGS, A FEAST OF WINES ON THE LEES (the best wine), OF FAT THINGS FULL OF MARROW, OF WINES ON THE LEES WELL REFINED.  MATTHEW 22:4; DANIEL 7:14.  7) AND HE WILL DESTROY IN THIS MOUNTAIN THE FACE OF THE COVERING CAST OVER ALL PEOPLE, AND THE VEIL THAT IS SPREAD OVER ALL NATIONS.  8) HE WILL SWALLOW UP DEATH IN VICTORY; AND THE LORD GOD WILL WIPE AWAY TEARS FROM OFF ALL FACES; AND THE REBUKE OF HIS PEOPLE HE TAKE AWAY FROM OFF ALL THE EARTH:  FOR THE LORD HATH SPOKEN IT.  2 CORINTHIANS 5:4; HEBREWS 2:14.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v6, A feast of wine on the lees refers to the best wine.  Fat things full of marrow refers to the choicest food.  v7, The surface of the covering and veil refer to a “shroud.”  This Is A Promise Of The End Of Death (v. 8).  v8, Lord Will Swallow Up Death.  Wipe Away Tears:  This Promise is given anew in Revelation 7:17; 21:4.  The Lord Has Spoken:  The Promises Are As Sure As The Eternal Character Of God (1:20).

Quest Study Bible – v6, 7, “Who are the people of the feast?”  The People of God Who Join In An Unrestrained Celebration.  The Picture Is Of An Inaugural Banquet For A King, With The Lord As King.  It Also Could Suggest A Wedding Celebration, With Isaiah Hinting About The Marriage Supper Of The Lamb (Luke 14:15; Revelation 19:7-9).  v7, “What covers the nations?”  Death, portrayed through the image of a shroud that wraps a corpse.  The Hebrew combines rhyming words with similar meanings and poetic parallelism (in which the second thought repeats the first).  All this emphasizes that Death Will Be Destroyed (v. 8).  v8, SCRIPTURE LINK (25:8) To Show That God’s Ultimate Victory Will End Death And The Mourning It Causes.  John linked this with the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:2-4).

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v6-8, THE KIND RECEPTION OF REPENTANT SINNERS, IS OFTEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT LIKENED TO A FEAST.  THE GUESTS INVITED ARE ALL PEOPLE, GENTILES AS WELL AS JEWS.  THERE IS THAT IN THE GOSPEL WHICH STRENGTHENS AND MAKES GLAD THE HEART, AND IS FIT FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNDER CONVICTIONS OF SIN, AND MOURNING FOR IT.  THERE IS A VEIL SPREAD OVER ALL NATIONS, FOR ALL SAT IN DARKNESS.  BUT THIS VEIL THE LORD WILL DESTROY, BY THE LIGHT OF HIS GOSPEL SHINING IN THE WORLD, AND THE POWER OF HIS SPIRIT OPENING MEN’S EYES TO RECEIVE IT.  HE WILL RAISE THOSE TO SPIRITUAL LIFE WHO WERE LONG DEAD IN TRESPASSES AND SINS.  CHRIST WILL HIMSELF, IN HIS RESURRECTION, TRIUMPH OVER DEATH.  GRIEF SHALL BE BANISHED; THERE SHALL BE PERFECT AND ENDLESS JOY.  THOSE THAT MOURN FOR SIN SHALL BE COMFORTED.   THOSE WHO SUFFER FOR CHRIST SHALL HAVE CONSOLATIONS.  BUT IN THE JOYS OF HEAVEN, AND NOT SHORT OF THEM, WILL FULLY BE BROUGHT TO PASS THIS SAYING, GOD SHALL WIPE AWAY ALL TEARS.  THE HOPE OF THIS SHOULD NOW DO AWAY WITH OVER-SORROWS, ALL WEEPING THAT HINDERS SOWING.  SOMETIMES IN THIS WORLD GOD TAKES AWAY THE REPROACH OF HIS PEOPLE FROM AMONG MEN; HOWEVER, IT WILL BE DONE FULLY AT THE GREAT DAY.  LET US PATIENTLY BEAR SORROW AND SHAME NOW; BOTH WILL BE DONE AWAY SHORTLY.  PRAISE GOD.
