“A Prophecy About Egypt,” V, Isaiah 19:19) In That Day shall there be an Altar to The Lord In The Midst of the land of Egypt, and a Pillar at the border thereof To The Lord.  Exodus 24:4; Hebrews 13:10.  20) And It shall be for a Sign for a Witness Unto The Lord Of Hosts in the land of Egypt:  for they shall cry Unto The Lord because of the oppressors, and He Shall Send them A Saviour, And A Great One, And He Shall Deliver Them.  Joshua 4:20; Isaiah 55:13.  21) And The Lord Shall Be Known To Egypt, and the Egyptians Shall Know The Lord In That Day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation (offering); yea, they shall Vow a Vow (A Solemn Promise) Unto The Lord, and perform It.  Malachi 1:11.  22) And The Lord Shall Smite Egypt:  He Shall Smite And Heal it:  and they shall return even to The Lord, And He Shall Be Intreated (Begged) of them, and Shall Heal them.  23) In That Day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.  24) In That Day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a Blessing in the midst of the land:  25) Whom The Lord Of Hosts Shall Bless, Saying, Blessed Be Egypt My people, and Assyria The Work Of My Hands, and Israel Mine Inheritance.

Quest Study Bible – v19-25, “Did Isaiah expect revival among the pagans?”  Yes.  God Promised As Much When He Called Abraham To Be A Light To The Nations, Promising Blessings Through His Provision (Genesis 12:2-3).  Today nations are being Converted To The God Of Israel Through The Ministry Of The Church (Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 15:8-12).  v22, “Why strike worshipers only to heal them again?”  Some confusion may arise because these verses are not arranged in strict chronological order.  This verse explains the circumstances that caused Egypt to Turn To The Lord (v. 21).  Egypt was disciplined before their Salvation, not after, as the order of the verses seem to suggest.  Divine Discipline Often Serves To Draw One Closer To The Lord (30:26; Hosea 6:1).

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v19, Altar and pillar may allude to the patriarchs Abraham and Jacob respectively (Genesis 12:8; 28:22).  v20-22, The Egyptians will know probably alludes to Israel’s experience in the Exodus (Exodus 6:7; 7:5).  v23, 24, A highway signifies the removal of alienation and separation (11:16).  Historically, Egypt and Assyria were enemies.  v25, My people and The Work Of My Hands, titles for Israel (10:24; 60:21), are applied here to the converted Gentiles, symbolized by Egypt and Assyria (56:7; 65:1).

Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v18-25, The words, “In This Day,” do not always refer to the passage just before.  At a time which was to come, the Egyptians Shall Speak The Holy Language, The Scripture Language; not only understand It, but use It.  Converting Grace, By Changing The Heart, Changes The Language, For Out Of The Abundance Of The Heart The Mouth Speaks.  So many Jews shall come to Egypt, that they shall soon fill five cities.  Where the sun was worshiped, a place infamous for idolatry, even there shall be a wonderful reformation.  Christ, The Great Altar, Who Sanctifies Every Gift, And The Gospel Sacrifices Of Prayer And Praise Shall Be Offered Up.  Let The Brokenhearted and Afflicted, Whom The Lord Has Wounded, And Thus Taught To Return To, And Call Upon Him, Take Courage; For He Will Heal Their Souls, And Turn Their Sorrowing Supplications Into Joyful Praises.  The Gentile nations shall not only unite with each other In The Gospel Fold Under Christ, The Great Shepherd, But They Shall All Be United With The Jews.  They Shall Be Owned Together By Him; They Shall All Share In One And The Same Blessing.  Meeting At The Same Throne Of Grace, and serving with each other in the same Business of Religion, should end all disputes, And Unite The Hearts Of Believers To Each Other In Holy Love.  Amen.
