“The Sign Of Immanuel,” V, Isaiah 7:20) In The Same Day Shall The Lord Shave With A Razor That Is Hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet, and it shall also consume the beard (he shall shave your head, the hair of your legs and shall take off your beards). 2 Kings 16:7; Jeremiah 27:6, 7. 21) And it shall come to pass in That Day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep; 22) And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land. 23) And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings (silver shekels), it shall even be for briers and thorns. 24) With arrows and with bows shall men come thither, because all the land shall become briers and thorns. 25) And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock (hoe), there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.
Quest Study Bible – “Why shave the hair of the Israelites?” v20, This was a metaphor that pictured the great shame Israel would experience at the hands of the Assyrians. Shaving, which here also included the genital areas, totally disgraced a soldier in the ancient world. Isaiah’s Prophecy meant that the Assyrians would leave Ahaz with nothing–not even the hairs on his body.
Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v17-25, Let those who Will Not Believe The Promises Of God, expect to hear the alarms of His Threatening s; for who can resist or escape His Judgments? The Lord Shall Sweep All Away; And Whoever He Employs In Any Service For Him, He Will Pay. All, speaks a sad change of the face of that pleasant land. But what melancholy change is there, which sin will not make with a people (Sin Brings Trouble and Sadness)? Agriculture would cease. Sorrows of every kind will come upon all who neglect The Great Salvation. If We Remain Unfaithful Under The Means Of Grace, The Lord Will Say, Let No Fruit Grow On Thee Henceforth For Ever. Amen.
