“A Rebellious Nation,” lll, Isaiah 1:10) Hear The Word Of The Lord, Ye Rulers Of Sodom, Give Ear Unto The Law Of Our God, Ye People Of Gomorrah. Ezekiel 16:46. 11) To What Purpose Is The Multitude Of Your Sacrifices Unto Me? Saith The Lord: I Am Full Of The Burnt Offerings Of Rams, And The Fat Of Fed Beasts; And I Delight Not In The Blood Of Bullocks, Or Of Lambs, Or Of He Goats. Psalm 50:8. 12) When Ye Come To Appear Before Me, Who hath Required This At Your Hand, To Tread My Courts (Who Has Asked This Of You, This Trampling Of My Courts)? 13) Bring No More Vain Oblations (Gifts); Incense Is An Abomination Unto Me; The New Moons And Sabbaths, The Calling Of Assemblies, I Cannot Away With (Bear); It Is Iniquity, Even The Solemn Meeting. 14) Your New Moons And You Appointed Feasts My Soul Hateth: They Are A Trouble Unto Me; I Am Weary To Bear Them. 15) And When Ye Spread Forth Your Hands, I Will Hide Mine Eyes From You: Yea, When Ye Make Many Prayers, I Will Not Hear: Your Hands Are Full Of Blood.
Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v10-15, God Desired Sacrifices, but not from people who Disobeyed Him and mistreated others, even if the sacrifice was the best. “To Obey Is Better Than Sacrifice,” said Samuel (1 Samuel 15:22, 23). God Judges not only our acts, but the attitude of our hearts (1 Corinthians 4:5). Verses 13-15 contain itemized condemnation of the people’s sacred seasons: New Moons (Numbers 28:11-15), Sabbaths (Exodus 31:14-17), and appointed feasts (Exodus 23:14-17). These feasts are condemned as futile because the people did not celebrate them Out Of Love For God.
Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v10-15, Judah was desolate, and their cities burned. This awakened them to bring sacrifices and offerings, as if they would Bribe God To Remove The Punishment, and give them leave to go on in sin. Many who will part with their sacrifices, will not be persuaded to part with their sins. They relied on the mere form as a service deserving a reward. He Not Only Did Not Accept Them, But He Abhorred (Hated) them. All this shows that sin a very hateful to God! If we allow ourselves in secret sin, or forbidden indulgences; if we Reject The Salvation Of Christ, our very Prayers Will Become Abomination (Hated).
